In a region where the Prairies meet the mountains, Southern Alberta’s dramatic shift in landscape sets the tone for flavourful experiences to be had across the region. Lethbridge and Medicine Hat are both home to creative interpretations of local ingredients, excellent craft products and a host of inventive and immersive culinary experiences that will leave you wanting more.
We’re highlighting some of the unique experiences happening this summer in these two regional hubs. If you’re looking for unforgettable foodie adventures paired with endless sunshine, Southern Alberta is the perfect destination.
The region’s largest city is characterized by long sunny days and a desire to kick back and enjoy the warmer months. Surrounded by several UNESCO World Heritage Sites and considered a gateway to outdoor adventure, there is plenty to discover in these parts. Prepare to be immersed in innovation and a commitment to sourcing local, something that isn't so difficult given that the city is situated in the heart of Canada's Premier Food Corridor.
Foodie Fest
This free event runs for multiple dates throughout the summer, giving attendees a chance to taste from a range of food trucks parked near and around Festival Square downtown. Live music and samples from participating local businesses in the area adds to the good time!
If you’re looking to extend the foodie fun, there are two farmers' markets running throughout the summer to get your fix. The Saturday Farmers’ Market takes place from June to October and the Wednesday Downtown Farmers’ Market runs throughout the months of July and August. It’s an ideal way to discover first-hand the regional produce and products directly from those who grow, make and bake them.

Start the evening with craft brews at Travois Ale Works, then enjoy dinner at The Silver Buckle before hopping back on the trolley to catch the Medicine Hat Mavericks in action, pint in hand.
Looking for the Best of Both Worlds?
Explore both cities by hopping on the Ice Cream Ale Trail! Featuring 11 ice cream shops and breweries, along with a few tasty stops in between, the trail invites you to discover everything from small-batch craft beer and seasonal flavours to classic scoops and refreshing pours. Arguably two of summer’s most essential treats, you can’t go wrong with a pint or a cone to beat the heat.
