Okanagan Grown – Farm Fresh is Best

By Tourism Vernon/

Great Taste of Canada

Get it fresh from the people who grow it and make it! Vernon is surrounded by lush farmland which means plenty of fresh, locally grown food. Fresh meats, vegetables, grain products, and fruits are all right here, just waiting for you to savour with delight. Many of our locally grown and made products can also be purchased at our Farmers’ Markets.

The Vernon Farmers’ Market is every Monday and Thursday from 8am – 1pm from April through October. The market showcases a diverse number of delicious foods and one-of-a-kind products, which are grown, made or baked by the local vendors.

Davison Orchards is the place to be for everyone to experience family fun at the farm. Kids will love the playground, feeding the goats and going for a ride on the Johnny Popper Tractor.  Everything on the menu at the Farmhouse Café has zero food miles as they are made with ingredients grown and prepared right from the farm. To cool down in the Okanagan heat, try one of their famous Appleanche screamers or real fruit ice cream.

The true Okanagan experience is to visit a U-Pick orchard to pick your own fruit to take home with you. Vernon is full of great options for visitors to experience the peaches, cherries and apples grown on this land. Peter’s U-Pick has cherries and peaches available in the summer and Davison Orchards has apples to pick in the late summer/early fall.

In the fall during harvest season, the farmers of the BX area in Greater Vernon join together for a weekend to open up their farm gates and produce stands for locals and visitors to tour around.  The BX Know your Farmer Tours happen on a September weekend and let you connect with the farmers behind local food in this rich agricultural area.
